“Borrow a Researcher” involves researchers visiting schools, workplaces, or organisations to talk about their work as researchers. In 2024, researchers visited 250 school classes, providing pupils across the country with an opportunity to learn about research in an understandable way.

In addition to talking about your research topic, the visits usually involve discussions about how research is undertaken and why you specifically chose to become a researcher. You can select which age groups you want to meet, how many visits you want to undertake, and whether you want to meet in person or online. All researchers who sign up to participate need to be prepared to share their knowledge in an easily understandable way that is tailored to those they are meeting.
You are most welcome to participate in ”Borrow a researcher” 2025 in April and/or September.
The process (in 2025)
Register by filling out a form with your information. This is the base of the profile we will publish on the site. Make sure that you explain your subject in a clear and personable way to increase the chances of being booked! We will then publish the profiles on ForskarFredag.se.
You will then receive login details to allow you to specify which times and days you are available to book. It’s also possible to change times and remove times in the booking system at a later stage, but remember to schedule breaks between visits. We recommend a maximum of 5 visits per round.
Booking requests will be sent to the email address that you provide in the form, so please check your emails regularly to ensure that the person making the booking receives a response.
Agree the length and format of the visit with the person who has made the booking so that you can tailor your presentation to suit the audience. Perhaps your research is related to something the class is currently working on or is interested in?
”Borrow a Researcher” is part of the ForskarFredag science festival and is organised by Vetenskap & Allmänhet (Public & Science Sweden). It costs nothing to borrow a researcher, and there is no compensation provided to participating researchers.
However, by participating, you gain an opportunity to communicate your research in an engaging and highly appreciated way. Ninety percent of the researchers who have participated say that they would be keen to do it again, and many teachers have already expressed an interest in borrowing researchers this year.
On March 20 you are welcome to participate in a workshop with tips before the visit. The workshop is open to all researchers participating in Borrow a researcher, held in English and conducted on Zoom.
