Mosquitoes are our world’s deadliest animals as they spread diseases like malaria, Zika virus and chikungunya virus. Most of these diseases are spread by tropical mosquitoes in for example Africa, but some diseases can be spread by mosquitoes that are also found in Sweden.
I study how viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes are changing, also known as virus evolution. These evolutionary changes can allow the virus to be more efficient transmitted by mosquitoes, or alter the disease symptoms. By studying these changes, I can better predict virus outbreaks, and find measures to prevent these outbreaks.

Därför forskar jag: I am very curious and fascinated how something so small as a virus can have such a big impact on us.
