When I say fungi, the first thing that comes to your mind is mushrooms and perhaps a nice svampplockning tur. But isn’t it crazy that they are also inside you! No, not the mushrooms but other fungi. They can be your friends but quickly turn foes if things go bad.

Hello! I am Sayoni, doing my PhD in microbiology and immunology in Germany. I am trying to understand how microbes inhabiting us, also known as commensals, can turn into potentially life-threatening pathogens.

I am originally from India, having lived in Sweden for 11 years before moving to Germany to pursue my PhD.
