What do Harry Potter, a cathedral and an earthquake have in common? To answer this question, we will start a journey in the magic world of metamaterials, which are special type of materials displaying novel and unexpected properties never observed in nature.
I will also show what we do at Umeå University, where we explore how light can be used to understand what happens on size scales one thousand times smaller than our cells, and on temporal scales one thousand trillion times smaller than a second.
