The magic world of metamaterials

What do Harry Potter, a cathedral and an earthquake have in common? To answer this question, we will start a journey in the magic world of metamaterials, which are special type of materials displaying new and unexpected properties never observed in nature.

These materials are capable to interact with light in special ways and can be used to develop new and energy-efficient computers, but also to observe in real-time how small molecules behave inside our body, thus helping to develop new types of diagnostic and therapeutical approaches.

This lecture will span the broad set of research activities we are carrying out at Umeå University with an outlook on concrete future applications which will impact the life of people in the years to come.
