Far away in our universe there’s things that are so heavy that not even light can get away from them. For a long time, some people thought these ’black holes’ may only exist in our imagination. But a few years ago, researchers were finally able to see them directly – but not with their eyes!
Just like how you can recognize the sound of a drum or a saxophone makes in the air around you, these heavy giants can be recognized by the tune they make in space and time. In my work, I try to better understand what spacetime sounds Einstein’s equations tell us to expect, so that we can ultimately hear from more parts of our universe!
