Insects consume about 30% of crops before harvest. While the most common method of controlling insects is using chemical pesticides, these chemicals can pollute the environment and become less effective in following years due to the evolution of resistance in the insect pest.
One more sustainable method being explored is using biopesticides, insect-killing organisms. Varying the dosage of biopesticides applied to different parts of an agricultural field may slow down the evolution of resistance in the long-term.
My project is on both the theoretical and experimental consequences of variations in biopesticide dose on the evolution of resistance.
