I work on developing genetic tools to engineer microalgae as a sustainable production platform. Microalgae are tiny organisms with incredible potential. They can capture CO₂, grow in diverse environments, and produce valuable compounds like biofuels, bioplastics, and high-value biochemicals. However, to fully harness their potential, we need to optimise their genetics—this is where I come in!
Using advanced genetic tools, we can precisely edit the DNA of microalgae to enhance their productivity, resilience, and efficiency. By tailoring these microscopic powerhouses, we are paving the way for eco-friendly solutions to global challenges in energy, materials, and biotechnology.
My work is focused on developing the genetic tools needed to make these edits more effective, reliable, and scalable. The goal? To turn microalgae into sustainable biofactories that can support a greener future. I would love to share more about all the cool things we can do with microalgae.
