Why are giraffes taller than you are?

I am a senior researcher exploring skeletal growth. My lab focuses on how bone growth is maintained and how injuries, like those caused during radiotherapy for childhood cancer patients, affect the skeleton.

What I would like to do is to get the audience to think about what the skeleton as a living organ, and explain how bones grow. I would be happy for suggestions of what you think the audience would like to hear before the session.
