ForskarFredag, a part of European Researchers’ Night, for the first time will be extended to Saturday. On 29 September, three separate events will take place in Stockholm. One of them will take place at Biomedicum, Karolinska Institutet’s new research laboratory. It is opening its doors on Saturday 29th at 11:00 for everyone interested.

If you would like to visit one of Europe’s most modern laboratories and explore the research that is taking place there – come and join exhibitions, symposia and interactive activities that scientists from Karolinska Institutet have prepared for you. We asked Lilian Kisiswa, a researcher and Biomedicum’s open house project leader, a few questions.

If you are curious about science and you are looking to be intellectually challenged and rewarded then I strongly suggest that you visit us on Saturday.

What is the highlight of the event taking place at Biomedicum?

– Oh! That is difficult to say. We have an excellent programme and have made sure that there will be something for everybody. I personally am planning to go to all the sessions because I think they are all very interesting.  But if I had to choose, I think the interactive activities are the highlight of the day. This is because, as a visitor, you will be able to get close to research in an easily accessible and relaxed way. From our researchers’ point of view, it gives us the opportunity to show the general public how exciting everyday research can be and what it means to work as a researcher. To me it’s a win-win situation.

Why should I come on Saturday to Biomedicum?

– This event aims to offer the public an opportunity to meet and interact with researchers, find out about research carried out in the Biomedicum laboratory, and provides a living forum for communication between researchers and the public. So if you are curious about science and you are looking to be intellectually challenged and rewarded then I strongly suggest that you visit us on Saturday.

What can I learn at the event?

– You will learn about DNA, stem cells, the importance of physical activity to your health, the mechanism behind severe headaches and how gut flora plays a role in diseases. Most importantly you get “first hand” information on how research is conducted at Biomedicum and what researchers do.

Biomedicum’s Open House is a part of ForskarFredag and European Researchers’ Night. More details about the event can be found here.
